Description
TrueCrypt is a program that helps with on-the-fly encryption. This means it lets you create a virtual encrypted drive that is stored as a file. On May 29, 2014, the developers of TrueCrypt unexpectedly announced that they were stopping the development of the program. All previous versions were removed, except for a new version v7.2, which no longer allows users to create new encrypted containers. It can only be used to decrypt existing encrypted storage.
Because of this, finding a trusted version of TrueCrypt became harder. The distribution contains the latest “real” version of the program.
